Apprenti’s tech apprenticeship program trains and places diverse talent into tech roles to help our county’s efforts to diversify the economy and grow the key tech sector.
On Monday, October 23, 2017, Apprenti™ announced that it will partner with Snohomish County to bring the nation’s first registered tech apprenticeship program to the area.
The apprenticeship program – which was started by the Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA) last year – recruits, trains and places diverse talent into tech roles, which will help contribute to the county’s efforts to diversify the economy.
“Apprenti is an exceptional program that is going to help us recruit and train local talent for the jobs of tomorrow,” said Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers. “With our region continuing to grow as a hub for high tech industries, we have a tremendous opportunity to diversify our economy and expand a key sector in our county. Apprenti will help us accomplish this.”
Apprenti is the only technology industry apprenticeship program registered with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries and also the U.S. Department of Labor.
The program focuses on recruiting underrepresented groups including women, people of color and veterans. Once accepted into the program, each apprentice receives between three and five months of certified technical training followed by one year of full-time, paid, on-the-job training with one of Apprenti’s hiring partners.
“Tech companies are hungry for a talented workforce, and we believe Snohomish County has a lot to offer,” said Jennifer Carlson, executive director of Apprenti. “By partnering with the county, not only are we able to help bridge the tech talent gap, but also contribute to their efforts to grow their economy. We’re proud to partner with County Executive Somers, who played an instrumental role in making this happen.”
Apprenti has received more than 2,600 applicants to this program. To date; 37 percent of applicants are women, 38 percent are people of color, and 19 percent are veterans.
Washington State’s first 77 apprentices currently work in jobs at Amazon, Microsoft, Avvo, Comtech, F5 Networks, Silicon Mechanics, and Accenture. The jobs include web developer, software developer, network security administrator, Windows system administrator, Linux system administrator, cloud support associate, and IT support professional.

There’s no better program than Apprenti to help us do that.”
As a hybrid competency and time-based program, those with a strong determination to complete the rigorous training are encouraged to apply.
To be considered for the program, applicants must be 18 or over, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status.
