Throwing caution to the wind and armed with plenty of hand sanitizer, garden club members defied conventional wisdom and thronged to Shawn O’Donnell’s on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, for one reason: Ciscoe Morris!
If you don’t know Ciscoe, he’s a NW Gardening Guru, a legend actually, who imparts knowledge while inserting fun into his subject matter.
We learned about spring-flowering plants, how to plant bulbs deeply so they won’t rot in our wet winters, about a “foxy” smelling plant and yes, it was no surprise, EVERY plant is Ciscoe’s favorite!
We saw photos of “his side” and “her side” of their home garden. The “her” is his wife, Mary, who has previously been a Garden Club guest speaker regaling us with stories of her hike along the coastline of England. Together they lead world-wide garden-loving hikes.
Garden Club was pleased to be one of the first groups able to purchase Ciscoe’s newly released book, "OH, LA, LA!" It’s a bunch of stories and garden tips done in his humorously masterful storytelling style. He was gracious enough to sign each purchased book with a name, short comment and his signature and there was a long line!
The tables were decorated with a lovely mossy basket full of violas, thanks to member Barbara Mills. First VP, Kathy Thomas, made sure the tables were adorned with sparkly shamrocks, green-wrapped candies, hand sanitizer (you guessed it, green) and even a “pot o’ gold.” Perfect!
A special thanks to the staff at Shawn O’Donnell’s for taking extra precautions due to the corona virus concerns—a tip of the hat to Kristen and her crew, we appreciate you looking out for us!
As always, Ciscoe lights up the room and brings laughter when we all could use a little!
