From a December 9, 2020, City of Mill Creek press release.
The City of Mill Creek has strengthened its management team with the appointment of Laurel Gimzo as the City’s new Finance Director.
Gimzo comes from the City of Ottawa, Kansas, where she served as the Assistant Finance Director/Treasurer and as the Assistant City Clerk/Senior Financial Analyst since 2016.
During her time as the Assistant Finance Director, Gimzo was responsible for developing city budgets, overseeing annual audits, and staff development. She led her department for two years without a Finance Director, and managed budget challenges, community projects, and grant-funded projects effectively.
“Gimzo brings with her passion, innovation and a proven track record of collaborating with other city departments to accomplish goals and to provide fiscal conservancy for the Mill Creek community,” commented City Manager Michael Ciaravino.
He went on to say, “Along with her prior experience, these skills will contribute to the success of the Finance Department and city operations.”
“I believe local government and those representing it should be honest and hardworking, transparent, and embody passionate energy to serve the community,” said Gimzo.
“In my opinion, the best way to accomplish that mission is with collaboration, motivation, and working together. My experience and dedication to public service will allow me to contribute and be a part of the city’s success,” she added.
She previously worked in the private sector as Senior Bank Loan Specialist and Investment Operations Management Analyst with State Street Bank.
Gimzo holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Ottawa University.
