From a Community Transit News Release.

Community Transit veterans will join clean air defender Oxy Gene to march alongside a Swift bus in the 2017 Mill Creek Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 11.

The parade begins at 11:00 am at Mill Creek Town Center and ends at City Hall.

Greg Lissner, service quality monitor for Community Transit, will be among the agency’s employees, friends and family members walking in the parade. Lissner served in the Navy as an aviator and flight instructor.

Lissner joined the Navy in 1969 because his father had fought in World War II, also as a naval aviator. “I qualified for both the Air Force and the Navy, but I wanted to follow the father I’d never known,” Lissner said. Lissner’s father was shot down in 1944, before Lissner was born.

Lissner’s wife, Alva, a bus driver at Community Transit, will be walking beside him in the parade, and the couple will wear matching aviator flight coats.

Community Transit employs more than 90 veterans as drivers, mechanics, planners, managers and directors.

The agency has received awards for its policies and benefits directed at veterans and reserve members, including the Patriot Award and the Above and Beyond Award from the Washington State Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

The agency is building a network of Swift bus rapid transit lines, with Swift Blue Line along Highway 99 and Swift Green Line between Canyon Park/Bothell and Boeing/Paine Field coming in 2019.
