Have you ever thought of becoming a Trooper? Washington State Patrol recruiters are actively looking for motivated and qualified men and women for the position of Trooper Cadet.

In the latest edition of our "Good to Know" series, Trooper Grant Campbell describes how you can join the Washington State Patrol by successfully completing our hiring process.

The Washington State Patrol video can be viewed on our YouTube channel.

Testing for the position of Trooper Cadet has four phases:

  • Phase 1 - physical fitness test and written examinations.
  • Phase 2 - oral board interview in front of a panel of experienced troopers.
  • Phase 3 - polygraph examination and a thorough background investigation.
  • Phase 4 - psychological examination, interview with our department psychologist, and a medical examination.

After successfully passing all four phases, you will be offered a position as a trooper cadet and assigned to a paid field position.

Field cadets gain valuable experience, while preparing to attend the 26-week Trooper Basic Training Class at the WSP Academy in Shelton.
