Everett police detectives investigate shooting death near Silver Lake

On Tuesday afternoon, May 11, 2021, Everett Police Officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon just north of Silver Lake. Arriving officers discovered an adult male who had been shot. The male was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

At about 3:30 pm on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, officers responded to the 11300 block of 19th Avenue SE just north of Silver Lake on the report of an assault with a weapon. Arriving officers discovered an adult male had been shot.

The male, in his early 30’s, was taken to a local hospital where he later died from the injuries.

Initial reports indicate the male was walking his dog when he started yelling and became aggressive towards people walking on the sidewalk around Silver Lake. One individual was a grandmother and her young granddaughter.

Several men were nearby and attempted to intervene but were pepper sprayed and struck with a metal baton by the male. One of the interveners was armed with a pistol and shot the male twice.

Officers detained the shooter and he willingly interviewed with Major Crimes detectives. Numerous people witnessed the incident and detectives continue their interviews and investigation.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the identity of the deceased as well as cause and manner of his death.

Everett Animal Control responded to the scene and took the dog for safekeeping.

Several blocks of southbound 19th Avenue SE were closed during the investigation but are now open for normal traffic.
