Construction of Exploration Park in Mill Creek’s North Pointe neighborhood is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 15, 2019. The goal is to complete the project in October or early November.
McClure and Sons Inc., a Mill Creek contractor, will be building the new neighborhood park.
The total cost as approved by the Mill Creek City Council including design, construction, construction management fees, and a contingency, is estimated at about $1.3 million.
Exploration Park will get a significant upgrade this year with the following features specifically designed for young families to enjoy:
- A large well-drained play lawn,
- Bike racks, benches, and picnic tables,
- Hillside play area including a beaver den cave and rock scramble,
- A play area with a balance beam, balance steppers, a basket swing, and play logs.
Unlike a number of other Mill Creek neighborhood parks, Exploration Park will not have restrooms or a large covered picnic area.
The park will be entirely closed to the public beginning April 15th. The construction site will be fenced and during daytime hours construction vehicles are anticipated to take up to 50 percent of the legal parking space adjacent to the site.
It's anticipated the work will be conducted during day-time hours, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, five days per week.
“People can expect general construction noise, including large trucks backing up and excavators,” said Matthew Feeley, Mill Creek Supervising Engineer.
He went on to say, “However, the level of noise will be significantly lower than what people experienced with the recent construction on 35th Avenue.”
