By Megan Wolfe, Executive Director of Girls on the Run of Snohomish County.
In the spirit of encouraging families to keep moving forward during this challenging time, Girls on the Run of Snohomish County (GOTRSnoCo) is proud to introduce an opportunity to lace up the sneakers for a fun, impactful, virtual event.
This unique, virtual Celebration 5K and Festival will take place from May 29th to May 31st, 2020, and is open to everyone.
The GOTRSnoCo virtual Celebration 5k is just that - a celebration of each individual person accomplishing a goal. Just like we teach our GOTR girls, the goal is to go at your happy pace and keep moving forward.
If you’re not interested or able to run, we have GOTR Physical Activity Cards for participants! These cards include fun physical activity challenges that celebrate the joy of movement and highlight some of the important lessons that girls learn throughout our program.
Whether you run an entire 5k, walk all or some of it, or complete a physical challenge, that is all worth celebrating!
Registration is $35 and includes a special 5th birthday finisher’s medal, a training plan and physical activity cards, a race bib, and fun activities from our sponsors!
Participants are also invited to engage in a virtual festival with fun activities and special guests throughout the weekend.
Girls on the Run is all about making connections, celebrating accomplishments, moving forward, and making an impact in our community. Our role in helping families maintain positive mental health, fostering healthy relationships, and being physically active is more critical than ever before.
Cancelling the spring program season and in-person 5K event have had a profound impact on our financial situation. The Virtual 5K is a way to bring our community together, get active, and raise critical funds so our organization is ready to support girls next year with critical life skills and supportive programming they’ll need post-pandemic.
Known nationally for our focus on developing the physical, social, and emotional health of our girls, and leaning into our core value of finding strength in our connectedness, Girls on the Run of Snohomish County continues to offer alternative programing to our families, ensuring that our girls would continue to receive the connection, the physical activity and the safe space they need to navigate the confusing emotions and fear that many are currently experiencing.
We are immensely grateful to our loyal, local sponsors, partners, and volunteers for their unwavering support. We are profoundly inspired to provide a reason for our community to come together and encourage each other through the Virtual 5K Celebration.
