Kiwanis of Mill Creek’s Kindness Wall - Give Love!

Our “Kindness Wall” is intended to bring acts of kindness to the community and to create bonds. This week's act of kindness is about all of us in the Great American Melting Pot giving love during the holidays.

Mill Creek’s “Kindness Wall” is intended to bring acts of kindness to the community, but since we are all social distancing, we share our Kindness Wall with you – virtually.

This week’s act of kindness!

The Great American Melting Pot! For those of us that were kids in the 70’s, we’ll never forget Schoolhouse Rock and this song. For those of you younger, you can find it on YouTube

Now, it was done in the 70’s, so it is a little dated, and we are a much more self-aware country 45 years later, but the message is still clear; people from all over the world ended up in the United States, and that diversity is what makes us the greatest country on the planet.

It’s true that some of our heritage is rooted in hate, violence and total disregard for human dignity, and many acts of our forefathers we consider reprehensible, but we can’t change any of that.

All we can do is move forward – and move forward with love.

The holidays are known as “The Giving Season.” We call it "The Holidays" because it is more than just Thanksgiving and Christmas.

For many of us, it’s the celebration of Hanukkah, the Festival of the Lights. Or Kwanzaa, a seven-night celebration of African heritage. Our people also celebrate Ōmisoka, a Japanese celebration of the final day of the old year, and Boxing Day, a holiday rooted in English tradition with influences worldwide. And of course, there is Christmas, the biggest holiday around the world! But at the core of each of these holidays is giving and a celebration of our unique and shared heritage.

So, this season, Give Love!

In 2020, more than any other time in history, it is important to give love, be considerate of all of those around you, and celebrate the togetherness of family and friends. We will persevere as a community, a country and a world.

During this holiday season and beyond, let everyone on the planet know that our country is the Great American Melting Pot – we’ve just adjusted the ingredients since the first version to make it even better!

We would love to hear about how you were able to take this simple act of kindness and make a difference! Please share in the reader comments section here and on your social media pages.  You can find us on Facebook.
