Kiwanis of Mill Creek’s Kindness Wall - Tell Someone You Love Them

The Kiwanis of Mill Creek's “Kindness Wall” is intended to bring acts of kindness to the community and to create bonds. This week's act of kindness is about telling the people who who are there for you and enrich your life that you love them.

The mission of the Kiwanis of Mill Creek is to empower our members to improve our community by making lasting differences in the lives of children.

This starts with kindness. Kindness to each other creates the bond of community, and community helps us all lead safe, happy and fulfilling lives!

Our “Kindness Wall” is intended to bring acts of kindness to the community, but since we are all social distancing, we share our Kindness Wall with you – virtually.

This week’s act of kindness!

Ah February, the month of love!  Each year, we are inundated with advertisements and expectations touting the time to show your love for your sweetheart or your Valentine.  Over the years, the holiday has evolved and become more commercialized, but at its core, it’s all about an expression of love.  And it absolutely should not be limited to February 14th.  Love is constant!

But what is love?  From our earliest memories, we’ve wondered that…told by family and friends that we are loved.  As we grow, we tell those around us that we love them.  There comes a time in our lives where we are either looking for love or it just finds us.  Some of us struggle with expressing love.  Some of us are head over heals in love all the time.  And many of us are in the middle, expressing our love when the feeling is right but sometimes holding back out of fear or concern that we will come across too bold.

But still, what is love?  It’s different for all of us - and different in the varying circumstances of our lives.  Love means many a thing, but at it’s very core, it’s an expression that we deeply care and truly feel for those we express our love to.  We tell our parents and our children that we love them…that’s easy!  We tell our spouses or partners that we love them…that’s easy too!  But do we love our neighbors – or our friends – or the people who enrich our lives?  Of course we do!  And it’s OK to tell them that!

Tell your best buddy that you love him!  Tell your girlfriend that you love her!  Don’t be afraid to reach out to those people in your lives who have been there for you - and those people that you have been there for – and tell them how much you love them.  It can seem awkward the first time you tell someone you love them…but the joy you will bring to them will be immeasurable.  And the love – however you define it – that will well up in you, will recharge your positive batteries and be good for your soul!

We would love to hear about how you were able to take this simple act of kindness and make a difference!
