Mill Creek Garden Club wraps up its year – sort of*

Mill Creek Garden Club kicked off its May 9, 2017, meeting with a special appearance by Steve Smith, The Whistling Gardener, from Sunnyside Nursery, Marysville.

His topic “Hot for 2017 Plants” was met with great enthusiasm, as was his Q & A session at the end of his presentation.  Steve has a wealth of plant knowledge plus his passion for gardening was obvious.

Garden Club members asked some tough questions but they were not able to stump the Whistling Gardener!

The Garden Club meets in an Irish Pub so every meeting seems like a party, but this last meeting of the year is extra-celebratory as the Club thanks the retiring officers and committee chairs who have given their “all” during the year.

A special thank you to the retiring 2016-17 Officers and Chairs for the lively meetings, tickle-your-fancy raffles, informative garden speakers, tasty menu choices, first-rate excursions, a festive Christmas party, gregarious greeters, a successful Garden Tour and rewarding civic gardening projects (who doesn’t love pulling weeds?!)—and so much more!

Retiring Elected Officers 2016-17:

  • President:  Michael Crawford
  • 1st VP:  Carol Connelly
  • 2nd VP:  Gloria Buchanan
  • Secretary:  Mary Hall Sommers
  • Treasurer:  Sally Dagna

Outgoing President Michael Crawford then had the pleasure of installing these new Elected Officers 2017-18:

  • President: Julie Jacobsen
  • 1st VP:  Judy Morrier
  • 2nd VP:  Gloria Buchanan
  • Secretary:  Nancy Hedges
  • Treasurer:  Sally Dagna

New President Julie Jacobson offered words of appreciation and a gift to outgoing three-term President Michael Crawford, followed by a round of applause from all in attendance.

The other departing officers and committee chairs chose a special plant from a lovely array of plants.

Mill Creek Garden Club is a welcoming, friendly group whose members reside in Mill Creek and surrounding areas.  They have members who come from as far away as Edmonds, Kirkland, Lake Stevens and Seattle!

They are Master Gardeners, down-in-the-dirt gardeners and yes, even just admirers of others’ gardens.

If you would like to join, MCGC meets at Shawn O’Donnell’s on the Second Tuesday of the Month, September to May.  Information may be found at www.millcreekgardenclub.com. Reservations are required.

*Don’t Forget:  The Mill Creek Garden Tour is Saturday, June 24th.   Tickets available now for $15 at Li’l Sprout Nursery, 17414 Bothell-Everett Hwy, Mill Creek. Tour six gardens at your own pace!
