Mill Creek Police and Fire District 7 to face off in an Epic Soccer Battle

The Mill Creek Police Department and Snohomish County Fire District 7 will go head-to-head in a soccer face off in an action packed evening at Arena Sports on Thursday, July 19, 2018, to raise money for Kiwanis International’s Camp Casey.

From a City of Mill Creek news release.

It’s a battle to determine the fate of the two local chiefs. One will take all the glory. The other will shoulder the burden of their agency’s disappointment and taking on some of the other chief’s duties.

The Mill Creek Police Department and Snohomish County Fire District 7 will go head-to-head in a soccer face off in an action packed evening at Arena Sports on Thursday, July 19, 2018, to raise money for Kiwanis International’s Camp Casey.

The Mill Creek Police Department recently selected Julia McCauley, who just finished second grade at Mill Creek Elementary, as its honorary Chief for A Day. Julia attends Camp Casey, a summer camp for children who have physical disabilities. It was her suggestion to raise funds for this program to support other children’s independence and their ability to experience summer fun they would typically not be able to experience without the assistance of the camp.

“Julia has been a great honorary Chief and we wanted to find other ways to show our appreciation for all that she has done for our department,” said Mill Creek Police Chief Greg Elwin. “We were not aware of just how impactful our Chief of the Day program could be and we continue to see just how far we can go with it.”

Fire District 7, which provides fire and emergency medical services to Mill Creek, was the obvious opponent to take on the police in the face off. The reaction to the news was overwhelmingly positive. Several officers and firefighters have already signed up to represent their agencies in the competition.

“We are always looking for ways to engage with the communities we are a part of,” said Fire Chief Gary Meek. “I couldn’t think of a better reason to use the age-old competition between police and fire to raise money for such a great cause.”

Arena Sports, the sponsor of this event, will donate 20 percent of their games and activities proceeds during the event back to the Camp Casey program.

The public is invited to watch and cheer on their local first responders. The event will take place Thursday, July 19, at 6:00 pm. Arena Sports is located at 13500 Bothell Everett Hwy in Mill Creek.
