Mill Creek Police Foundation seeks volunteers

By Sally Dagna, Acting Mill Creek Police Foundation Communications Chair.

Mill Creek is now one of the hundreds of cities throughout the U.S. that have a local charitable police foundation. The Mill Creek Police Foundation was founded to help connect civilians to their local law enforcement agency.

We are seeking citizens who can provide support by giving financially or helping provide services in our community.

Support from these foundations help make it possible for their Police Departments to expand their training options, to provide better equipment, and to promote health and safety projects throughout their communities, far exceeding what would have been possible through the cities’ budget alone.

We recognize that just like most other cities around the country, the needs of the Mill Creek community are varied. It’s not always easy to meet these needs through our City budget alone, so in 2017 a small group of area residents and business owners came together and created The Mill Creek Police Foundation.

The foundation’s first project was to assist in providing a safe and secure kennel to house Mill Creek’s new K-9, Bagira.

The newly created Mill Creek Police Foundation  took part in helping complete the project through generous donations of funds from two of their co-founding board members; Roy Cats and Barbara Perra.

The City of Mill Creek budgeted thousands of dollars to purchase, train, and equip Bagira, and poured the concrete slab for the kennel. At that point the foundation was delighted to come along side to help complete the kennel project.

Friends, area contractors, and local business owners provided all of the labor and some of the needed supplies.

The result of this comradeship was a state-of-the-art kennel home completed just in time for Bagira’s arrival.

The Mill Creek Foundation plans to raise funds for the city’s all-volunteer Citizen Patrol, Chief For a Day program, K-9 program and a variety of community emergency preparedness programs, just to name a few.

For our first fundraising effort and to introduce ourselves to the public, we had a booth at this summer’s Mill Creek Festival.

The Mill Creek Police Foundation is a charitable non-profit 501 C-3. We are currently seeking new members to increase the size of the Board of Directors, as well as to build overall membership numbers.

We are looking especially for a Director of Communications, photographers, event planners, and volunteers to help with fundraising events.
