Long-time Mill Creek Police Officer Ian Durkee was promoted to sergeant by Police Chief Jeff Young at the November 9, 2021, Mill Creek City Council meeting.

Young said, “This is a very proud moment for us. I am delighted to promote to the rank of police sergeant Ian Durkee.”

He went on to say, “He has done a wonderful job. He is going to be an asset to the position. I’m thrilled to be able to promote him.”

Durkee joined the Mill Creek Police Department in 2007 and has had many roles. Over the years he has served as detective, training officer, K9 handler, corporal, acting sergeant, and public information officer.

In 2012 Durkee was named Officer of the Year. The December 2012 City of Mill Creek newsletter stated, “Ian’s nominations included supporting comments related to his consistent adherence to the mission, vision and values of the department, an officer that finds a silver lining in every cloud and as one who is a steadfast confidant, partner and friend.”

Durkee and his K9 partner Rasko were certified in 2013 as Mill Creek’s first K9 team.
