Mill Creek teachers earn National Board Certification in 2012

The National Board’s “class of 2012” has added 15 colleagues to the 138 instructional staff in Everett Public Schools who have successfully completed their National Boards.

Over 50% of the Everett Public School teachers who earned National Board Certification in 2012 are from Mill Creek schools.

The National Board’s “class of 2012” has added 15 colleagues to the 138 instructional staff in Everett Public Schools who have successfully completed their National Boards. The latest “class of 2012” were among only 575 to earn certification in the state.

15 Everett Public Schools teachers were among just 4,980 nationwide and 575 in the state of Washington to earn National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards this year. To earn National Board Certification (NBC), a teacher must complete a rigorous process that typically takes one to three years to complete.

There are now National Board Certified Teachers successfully advancing student outcomes in all 50 states, with the largest number of National Board Certification Teachers in North Carolina, Washington state and Illinois. Everett Public Schools is in sixth place among the state’s school districts in the number of National Board Certified teachers working here; 2 percent of the state’s National Board Certfification teachers are working in Everett Public Schools' classrooms.

Nationally, the number of National Board Certification Teachers has increased by 60 percent in the past five years. Eleven states have more than doubled the number of National Board Certificatio Teachers in the past five years – Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wyoming.

This year’s National Board Certification “class of 2012” includes:

  • Keri Lindsey: Woodside Elementary

  • Crystal Moore: Penny Creek Elementary

  • Corinne Panchot: Forest View Elementary

  • Jeniffer Pitharoulis: Everett High School

  • Karen Price: Everett High School

  • Andrew Sevald: HM Jackson High School

  • Sarah Simon: Cedar Wood Elementary

  • Kim Slavens: North Middle School

  • Kaja Smith: Heatherwood Middle School

  • Sheryl Templora: HM Jackson High School

  • Stephanie Van Driel: Garfield Elementary

  • Tracy Webber: Woodside Elementary
