From Mill Creek Police Officer Ian Durkee’s May 20, 2020, Facebook post.

Congratulations to Officer Nathan Lerma and Police Service Dog (PSD) Hondo on their first capture as a team last night, Tuesday the 19th!

Officer Lerma and PSD Hondo assisted the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office searching for a wanted subject who had led deputies on a high speed pursuit from 196th Street in Lynnwood to 1st Ave NE in Seattle and then fled on foot.

Officer Lerma and PSD Hondo successfully located the subject hiding at a school nearby where the pursuit ended.

This track was only Officer Lerma and PSD Hondo’s second deployment together after training.

Officer Lerma is an experienced canine handler and just recently completed 12 weeks of canine training and certification with his new canine partner.

The Mill Creek Police Department is very proud of Officer Lerma and PSD Hondo, and we wish them much continued success as a team!

Editor’s note: After years of service, Officer Lerma’s first Police Service Dog partner Bagira retired in December 2019.
