By David Gunter, Rotary Club of Mill Creek, March 12, 2020.
Fellow members of our community, the Hope Creek Charitable Foundation Backpacks of Hope Program needs our help!
Due to the Covid-19 virus, donations are dangerously low as many of the usual donors are staying home. As an example, every Monday a donation of approximately 300 loaves of bread is usually received, but on a recent Monday, there was no donation.
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, fresh produce, dairy products, eggs and canned goods are received, and on Thursdays, those goods are assembled in backpacks and delivered to the 16 schools in the Everett School district that the Foundation serves. On Fridays, the backpacks are given to the students in need so that they and their families will have needed food over the weekend, but now, supplies are low.
To help with this program, the Rotary Club of Mill Creek challenges other service clubs like ours, organizations and individuals, to donate to the Hope Creek Charitable Foundation so they can continue to help these students during this challenging time.
The Rotary Club of Mill Creek will match the total funds donated up to $1,000, for a cumulative effort by March 31, 2020.
This is an opportunity for service clubs, organizations and individuals to help their local community during this time of need. Please put out the word and donate.
Checks should be made out to Hope Creek Charitable Foundation with a note in the memo line of your check designating Backpacks of Hope. This will ensure the money goes directly to this worthwhile and needed program.
