From an Everett Public Schools News Release.

Cedar Wood Elementary teams up with YMCA to create origami peace flag.

The before-and after-school YMCA daycare program at Cedar Wood Elementary School created an American flag made of origami peace cranes.

They presented it to the school as a thank you for the close working relationship between the YMCA and the school. The program is now crafting a larger version, which will become a bulletin board in the school cafeteria.

The school-based daycare program collaborates very closely with Cedar Wood staff and families. “Students benefit from the time to work on homework, with adult guidance, as well as the sense of community the staff has created,” shared Cedar Wood Elementary Principal David Jones.

Cedar Wood teachers know they can ask the Y staff to assist specific children with mastering a skill or understanding a concept. Our community benefits from the YMCA school-based day care program. Parents know their children will be cared for in a safe, supportive environment.”

Jones added, “I love the flag – there is no other like it, and the hours of work represented make it even more meaningful.”
