From a Scleroderma Foundation Washington Everegreen Chapter news release.
The Scleroderma Foundation Washington Evergreen Chapter will be hosting its annual Western Washington Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma 10K Run/5K Walk on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Willis Tucker Community Park in Snohomish.
Registration and Check-in will start at 9:00 am and the run and walk will start at 10:00 am.
Congresswomen Suzan DelBene (WA-01) will be at the event!
She will talk about why she's co-sponsoring our bill in the US House (H.R. 3446 - National Commission on Scleroderma and Fibrotic Diseases Act).
This bill would establish a commission within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to evaluate and to make recommendations regarding improvements to the coordination and advancement of NIH-supported research activities related to fibrosis and fibrotic diseases.
At this fun and exciting fundraising and awareness event, representatives from our chapter will have an information table with details about this disease and ways the community can get involved to help us fund research to find a cure, and ways to continue to support patients and their families.
We will be there to answer questions about this rare disease in the hopes that spreading awareness will help us continue to provide critical services that help our community members thrive with scleroderma.
We will have a variety of raffle items available at the event, as well as prizes for the top teams.
There will be a BBQ and refreshments, a DJ, and face painter.
As an exciting addition for the kids this year we will have two mascots in attendance from local teams. The official mascot of the Everett AquaSox baseball team, Webbly, and Lincoln the bear mascot of the Everett Silvertips will be present for pictures before the race starts!
These events are essential to growing our chapter and we’ve found that activities like this encourage others to find out more about scleroderma and get involved.
This Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma fundraising event is one of two that our chapter does in Washington State. These events are part of our awareness activities and provide much needed funds to continue our mission.
