Brian the Movie Guy speaks at the Mill Creek Women's Club

Members and guests of the Mill Creek Women's Club were thoroughly entertained at the September 19th luncheon by guest speaker, Brian the Movie Guy. Brian told stories of how he got into the movie critic business and how he rates movies. He talked about his favorite movies and answered many questions from a thoroughly engaged audience. He shared that his favorite movie of all time is Raiders of the Lost Ark but he has 78 movies that are tied for second place!

Brian watches about 100 - 150 movies a year and his favorite part is the anticipation and being in a full theater surrounded with people seeing the movie for the first time and getting their raw reaction.

The Reserve at Town Center Apartments begins site clearing and grading for the third and last phase of their Mill Creek development this week.

The Reserve at Town Center Apartments will begin site clearing and grading for the third and last phase of their Mill Creek complex this week.

Phase III consists of 95 multifamily residential units in five buildings on the 3.36 acre former Halo Mobile Home Park site. Twelve of the residential units will be live/work townhomes with office/retail space on the first floor adjacent to Main Street and residential living space on the second floor.

164th Street SE intersection improvement project starts

Mill Creek started a project to improve the intersection of 164th Street SE and Bothell-Everett Highway on Monday, September 10th.

The City of Mill Creek, the Washington State Department of Transportation, and Marshbank Construction Inc. began a project to improve the intersection of 164th Street SE and Bothell-Everett Highway on Monday, September 10th. The project should be complete in three to four weeks.

The project removes the landscaped median on southbound Bothell-Everett Highway, and restripes 164th Street SE to extend the eastbound left turn lane.

Terry Ryan announces his resignation from the Mill Creek City Council.

At the September 4th City Council meeting, Councilmember Terry Ryan announced that he would resign from the Mill Creek City Council at 5:00 PM on September 11th. Ryan said that he was no longer able to juggle his full-time commercial real estate broker job at Kidder Mathews, his part-time job as a soccer coach at Mercer Island High School, his part-time Mill Creek City Council job, and his family commitments. “I am good at keeping a lot of balls in the air, but I just can’t balance everything,” he said.

Zen Garden Chinese Restaurant evicted

Zen Garden Chinese Restaurant owners evicted for non-payment of rent.

The Snohomish County Sherriff’s Office evicted the owners of the Zen Garden Chinese Restaurant from their business for non-payment of rent on August 31st.

According to a reliable source who didn’t want to be named, the restaurant owners were at least four months behind in the rent.

The Zen Garden Chinese Restaurant was one of the few Chinese restaurants in Snohomish County offering Dim Sum.

Cougar Park’s cable ride temporarily out of commission

Mill Creek’s popular cable ride has been out of commission for the past few weeks because of a broken part. The Cougar Park cable ride is designed specifically for older children and is a safe version of a zip line.

A City of Mill Creek spokesperson said the equipment is under warranty by the local supplier, but the replacement part had to be special ordered from the German manufacturer.

As part of this process, Mill Creek’s Community Development Department created an online survey designed to let the City know what types of signs people think are appropriate. The City is encouraging businesses, residents, and visitors to complete this simple five-minute survey.

On September 20th, Mill Creek’s Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing regarding proposed changes to the East Gateway Urban Village zoning.

On September 20th, Mill Creek’s Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing regarding proposed changes to the East Gateway Urban Village zoning to allow larger stores such as Target to be built there. Some of these changes have been in the planning stages since April of 2011.

Acting City Manager, Tom Gathmann, said that the City is in detailed discussions with Target for development of the west end of the East Gateway Urban Village in the July 3rd City Council meeting.
