A tragic accident caused the death of an Archbishop Murphy High School track star and Snohomish resident on Saturday afternoon, May 9, 2015. She was a senior and was ready to graduate in two weeks.

Lt. Todd Swenson of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reported, “At approximately 3:15 pm on May 09, 2015, a Snohomish area teen (17) was killed on a BNSF train trestle over the Stillaguamish River near Arlington, WA. The girl was with two of her friends at a popular swimming area near the tracks in an unincorporated area named Silvana.”

Lt. Swenson said that when the train approached the spot the three teens were on the trestle overlooking the river. The victim’s male friend jumped from the trestle into the water and the two girls attempted to get off the other end of the trestle before the train arrived.

According to Lt. Swenson the victim’s female friend was able to get to one side of the trestle as the train passed but the victim was not able to get out of the way and was struck and killed. The train was a North bound freight train.
