With Mother's Day coming up on Sunday the 12th, here are a few local ideas for making mom feel special while supporting local Mill Creek businesses.
Moms always love brunch, so why not take her to Mill Creek's newest cafe, The Rusty Pelican, where owner Marilyn Limberopoulus is planning a special Mother's Day menu along with the regular menu. Everything at the Rusty Pelican is homemade from scratch and every mom will be given a complimentary chocolate covered strawberry. The menu includes cinnamon rolls, coffee cakes and muffins. There's a special poached Bosc pear appetizer and entrees that include homemade quiche, soufflé and French toast topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries and pecans. Add a specialty mimosa and mom will be happy!
If mom is crafty, Color Me Mine in the Town Center is holding a Mother's Day painting event. Moms get to paint for no studio fee and they will be served sweet tea and cookies. Every mom leaves with a flower.
If you haven't bought a gift yet, no worries, as Mill Creek has several gift shops:
Head to Musings Artist Inspired for something unique from a local artist. Sadly, Musings will be closing in a few weeks but all local artist work will be available for sale until the end of May. They also have select merchandise on sale.
Belle Provence has all sorts of lovely gift ideas. For the mom who loves to keep her pearly whites clean & fresh, one of my favorite gifts is the portable Slim Sonic Toothbrush. It comes in several colors and designs and will easily fit into a purse. At $16 it's a very affordable gift.
Further along Main Street at The Nest, check out the white hobnail dishes from the Farmhouse Pantry collection and pair with a Farm Girl syrup, honey, jam or soap made in the Pacific Northwest.
Just around the corner from the Town Center in Maple Leaf Square is Elegant Details Boutique. Here you will find affordable home accessories and trendy women's apparel.
Don't forget Pier 1 Imports for thoughtful ideas for moms. It's always fun to wander around the big, bright and cheerful store. In no time you will find something special for the kitchen, the garden or the spa.
Support your local bookstore and head over to the University Bookstore. Not only do they sell beautiful books and everything Husky, they also have a wide selection of gifts.
If you really can't find anything that seems just right for mom you can't go wrong with flowers. Central Market has a wonderful selection of fresh flowers, plants and hanging baskets.
