FINALLY, the Friends of the Mill Creek Library (“the Friends”) are back in business in the lobby of the Mill Creek Library.
The Friends maintain an impressive collection of books for sale at very modest prices ($2.00 for hardbacks, $1.00 for paperbacks, $0.50 for children’s soft-cover books and $1.00 for children’s hardbacks).
Sales are based on an honor system – the payments go into a box attached to the wall above the shelves of books in the lobby.
Funds raised by the Friends promote library activities, such as summer reading programs and prizes, children’s programs, teen and adult programs, multi-cultural programs and events, and equipment not covered by the library budget.
In addition to helping the library, the Friends offer grants to local schools to provide literacy education and services for local teachers and librarians. In 2021, they were able to provide two grants to local school librarians Alisia White, Librarian at Evergreen Middle School and Taylor Calderon, Librarian at Heatherwood Middle School. The Friends welcome additional grant applicants.
The Friends invite all Mill Creek residents to visit the library and browse the books for sale in the lobby. The Friends are always looking for new members. Annual membership is $10. There are membership forms located near the donation box in the lobby book sales area.
Currently, the Friends are hosting monthly meetings on Zoom, but hope to return to in-person meetings in the future.
