From an Everett Public Schools news release.

Congratulations to Hank Tian from Everett High School and to Margaret Hebert and Matthew Lee from Henry M. Jackson High School. They are semifinalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program.

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

Last year, about 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered by taking the PSAT.

The semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

The number of semifinalists in each state is proportional to the state’s share of the country’s total of graduating seniors.
