Sno-Isle TECH’s Aerospace Manufacturing Program is proud to select Erwin (EJ) Estaura as the November 2021 Student of the Month for Overcoming Adversity.
“Never trust your fears, they don’t know your strength.” These are words in a frame, given to EJ by his aunt and uncle.
“I didn’t know what they meant nor how I was supposed to feel reading them. All I knew was fear; fear of being left alone, fear of being obese, fear of others judging me, and…fear of disappointing the ones I care about the most: my family,” said EJ.
EJ’s life has been filled with challenges and he overcame those challenges by learning to look at things from a different perspective.
He explained, “The most challenging happened when my father passed away, and I was sent to live with my aunt and uncle. I’m still trying to understand his absence and how to grieve. His death sent my anxiety to the moon, but it’s falling, slowly, in its own way, on its own path, with each small step toward more healing, back into orbit.”

Ian was in the pilot orchestra class at Gateway Middle School as a 6th grader. Ms. West, Jackson High School’s orchestra teacher, started teaching him in orchestra as a 7th grader and he came early to school to play with a special string quartet.
His early start as a chamber musician has made him a top player in Chamber Orchestra and Ms. West was impressed by how devoted he was to the cause of growing the new orchestra program.
From the very beginning he was an integral part of maintaining group morale and elevating the musical level of the group.
He challenges himself to grow as a cello player and his classmates to take on challenging music.
Ian will be a lifelong musician, continuing to share his musical abilities with his church choir as a singer and instrumentalist. He plans to play in a university orchestra wherever he attends.
