The Washington State Patrol Criminal Investigation Division (C.I.D.) is investigating a motor cycle collision that occurred on Saturday July 26th, 2014, at 1:42 PM on eastbound SR 531 (172nd St) just east of 67th Ave in Arlington.
The motorcycle was eastbound on SR 531 at a high rate when the rider crashed and was ejected. The rider of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries at Harborview Medical Center on July 30th.
The rider had been driving at a high rate northbound on I-5 from MP 202 in Marysville.
WSP units on the ground along with WSP aircraft attempted to get into position to stop the rider but the rider was driving in and out of traffic at over 100 MPH.
The rider was riding with a second, unknown motorcyclist, who was also driving recklessly. Aircraft continued to observe the motorcycles as they exited to Smokey Point and split up off of Smokey Point Boulevard.
A trooper on the ground attempted to stop the rider on northbound Smokey Point Boulevard at the intersection of SR 531. The rider fled from the trooper onto eastbound SR 531.
The short pursuit started on eastbound SR 531 from Smokey Point Boulevard and lasted only a few moments before the rider ran a red light at a high rate of speed at the intersection of SR 531 and 43rd Ave.
The trooper quickly terminated the pursuit. He observed the motorcycle continue eastbound on SR 531 away from him at a high rate of speed while passing vehicles dangerously on the right, where there was no shoulder.
WSP aircraft was overhead and observed the rider continue eastbound on SR 531 until he crashed 1.6 miles east of where the trooper terminated the pursuit.
The motorcycle was a black 2008 KTM 990SD.
WSP detectives are seeking any witnesses to the rider’s dangerous driving on I-5 and SR 531 as well as witnesses to the collision and events leading up to it.
