By Trooper Rick Johnson, Washington State Patrol, Public Information Officer.
At approximately 8:05 am on Wednesday morning, August 18, 2021, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received a 9-1-1 call advising of a collision SB I-405 to NB I-5.
Once troopers arrived they observed a BMW X3 with heavy front end damage and a Mercedes.
The two gentlemen at the scene advised that the BMW was involved in a one car collision and they stopped to see if the driver was ok. One of these Good Samaritans was in the Mercedes and the other was driving a Ford F150.
The driver of the BMW brandished a handgun, carjacked the F150, and fled north on I-5.
The description given of the suspect was a black male in his 20s, 5’10” to 6’00” with dread locks wearing blue pants a green long sleeved shirt.
It turns out that the BMW X3 was a stolen vehicle.
WSP detectives are seeking additional witnesses and anyone with information that would help to identify the suspect or the whereabouts of the stolen truck.
If located or observed please call 911, DO NOT contact the car or driver as they are armed.
Please contact Detective Ruth Medeiros at (425) 401-7719 or by email at Ruth.Medeiros@wsp.wa.gov if you have any information regarding this incident.
