Wife’s murder and husband’s subsequent death in car crash bring tragedy to Mill Creek

After socializing with friends Sunday afternoon and evening, a pregnant woman was murdered in her Mill Creek apartment and her husband died in a high-speed car crash shortly thereafter.

According to Officer Ian Durkee, the Mill Creek Police Public Information Officer, witnesses told police that the husband and wife spent part of Sunday with friends watching football and dining out.

According to Durkee, the woman called friends back to her apartment in the 14700 block of Main Street later Sunday evening because the husband was acting strangely and had armed himself with a loaded shotgun. The friends came back and were able to calm the man down. At that point all but one of the friends left the apartment.

Police believe that early Monday morning when the remaining friend left the apartment to buy cigarettes, the husband fatally assaulted his wife and then fled the scene at a high rate of speed. His car crashed into a parked semi-tractor trailer truck in the 18500 block of 35th Avenue SE. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident according to Durkee.

Although the shotgun is suspected to have caused the woman’s severe head wound, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet completed their investigation said Durkee.
